Secondary Education PDS

Woodruff High School

Candidates in this PDS are paired with mentor teachers in their field on the first day of the Woodruff academic school year. They complete approximately 100 clinical hours during the fall semester at the same time that they take two courses on site, C&I 214 and C&I 216. Candidates continue working with their mentor teachers in the spring semester as they "team teach" for the remainder of the year.

Woodruff High School is located in Peoria, Ill., approximately 40 minutes from Illinois State University. The district has a high poverty rate (62 percent) and the majority of students are African-American (59 percent). Woodruff entered into a PDS relationship with Illinois State University in 2006. The first cohort will graduate from this partnership in spring 2007. This is the first PDS site for Illinois State University at the secondary level.
